We will be using the rules of the International
Bowling Federation (IBF).
The 1st World Outgames endorses a healthy and fair approach to sports training and competition. Sport events in the 1st World Outgames are sanctioned by provincial, national, and in some cases, international sports governing bodies. In order to adhere to the rules of these sporting federations and to guarantee that the Outgames are run in a fair and just manner, GLISA and the Outgames have adopted the policy as set by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Consequently, all athletes competing in the 1st World Outgames must adhere to GLISA’s position on drugs in sport and may be required to undergo drug-testing. We encourage all participants to become familiar with this policy.
The objective of the 1st World Outgames in this regard is to provide an experience where all athletes are able to compete in a safe and welcoming environment, without discrimination of any kind. Our priority is to find the appropriate balance to ensure that no person, regardless of their birth gender, is disadvantaged in athletic competition and at the same time that no person participating in the Outgames experiences discrimination.
GLISA and the 1st World
Outgames have collaborated so as to develop a
policy that reflects this balance. We encourage
all participants, especially those who have identified
themselves as ‘transgender’ in the registration process, to become familiar with this policy.
Each bowler must play 3 games in SINGLES, DOUBLES
and TEAM.
1- The League Division
is open to bowlers with an average established
via play in a regular leagues or tournaments (minimum
21 games). League competitors are defined
as those players who have recorded averages from
league and/or competition play. Such leagues or
tournaments shall not necessarily be sanctioned
but shall have kept verifiable records of all
bowlers participating therein, their scores, number
of games played etc. photocopies of documents
that purport to verify averages will not be accepted,
unless the original signature of the officer so
verifying is contained therein. A bowler must
have an established average for at least one year
after 1 February 2004, with a minimum of 21 games
in that year. This handicap will be 80% of 200. The maximum for each
bowler will be 48 pins per game.
2- Social Division
is for competitors who have no recorded averages
from league and/or tournament play. All Social
Division events will be scratch bowling.
A mixed team is comprised of both men and women. If registration for a mixed category is insufficient, it could be CANCELLED
Tournament games will be played on two lanes (a pair) immediately adjoining each other. Participants shall successively and in regular order bowl one frame on one lane and for the next frame, alternate and use the other lane.
Players must respect bowling etiquette at all times:
Players must stay in approach area and step back off the approach area after making the delivery and respect a satisfactory distance until the return of their ball. Players shall yield to a player moving to the approach or preparing to bowl on the lane immediately to their right.
Players will move only one lane at a time and will not wait for a player who is two or more lanes away to start the game.
Players who do not observe the rules of etiquette
will receive a verbal warning. After a second
offense, the player may be disqualified from
the event if another player lodges a complaint.
Approaches must not be defaced. This includes,
but is not limited to, such substances as talcum
powder.
It is the responsibility of the player to become
familiar with the competition schedule and venue
and to avoid scheduling conflicts with participation
in other sporting events. The schedule will not
be altered to accommodate the preferences or
schedules of players. All possible will be done
so as to notify each competitor in advance of
his or her schedule. Players must register at
the designated location as the schedule will
be established based on two doubles per team.
Any player or team arriving late shall begin
play with the score count beginning with the
frame then being bowled on the lane or lanes
to which they are assigned. Deliveries in unplayed
frames will not be counted if the absent or unprepared
player misses one or more frames.
