Rendez-Vous Montréal 2006:
Major Agreements with International Organizations

Montréal, 3 February 2004 - "Rendez-Vous Montréal 2006 has just signed a memorandum of understanding with GALA Choruses, the world's most prominent Association of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender choral singers," Ms. Louise Roy, Chief Executive Officer of Montréal 2006, announced today.

Under the leadership of a national board of directors, GALA Choruses is based in Washington D.C., with a membership of nearly 200 choruses and 10,000 singers. Member choruses are located throughout North America, Europe, South Africa and Australia.

"We are absolutely delighted to have signed this agreement with Rendez-Vous Montréal 2006," said Ms. Barbara Mc Cullough-Jones, Executive Director of GALA Choruses. GALA Choruses will assist in the organization of a cultural event which will include at least 1,500 choral singers. We will also promote Montréal 2006 during future events leading up to 2006."

Montrealers will get a sample of GALA Choruses' Festival performances this summer when more than 5,000 singers take the stage as part of the VIIe Festival International GALA Choruses Montréal 2004, from 17 to 24 July. (www.galachoruses.org)

A choral festival will be part of the Games cultural programme and is an integral component of activities planned for Rendez-Vous Montréal 2006, as is "The Right to Be Different" Conference, which will bring together more than 2, 000 participants, two days before the sporting events begin.

IN SPORTS...

Montréal 2006 is also proud to announce the conclusion of a series of agreements for its sports programme, allowing it to deliver quality sporting events for the Games.

Montréal 2006 and the Gay and Lesbian Rowing Federation, headquartered in Los Angeles, have reached an agreement on the format for the competitions to be held at the Olympic Basin on Notre-Dame Island.

In the same spirit, the International Gay Figure Skating Union has reached an agreement with Montréal 2006 to outline the conditions for this sport during the games. Montréal 2006 is also in discussion with the International Front Runners, an organization representing long-distance runners.

In addition, Olympic champion Mark Tewksbury, Co-President of Montréal 2006, met last week with Team New York, which has renewed its commitment to attend the Montréal Games and to actively promote Rendez-Vous Montréal 2006. Team New York represents thousands of athletes.

This month, Mr. Tewksbury will begin an international tour to promote the 2006 Games in Montréal.
