Already 5,600 Registered!
Important Increase Following Many Promotions in
Europe and United States
Montréal, 30 June
2005 — “During the past two
weeks, registration for the 1st
World Outgames Montréal 2006 increased
rapidly from 5,000 to 5,600,” Ms. Louise
Roy, CEO of Montréal 2006, announced today.
“This remarkable accomplishment was realised
mainly in Europe and the USA, and is reflected
in both sport and cultural events,” explained
Ms. Roy.
EUROGAMES UTRECH 2005
The presence of Montréal
2006 and GLISA at the EuroGames Utrecht 2005 (from
16 to 19 June) were a great success. “We
would like to thank the EuroGames Organisers for
opening their doors and giving us many opportunities
to promote the upcoming Outgames in Montréal
in 2006. We wish to offer heartfelt thanks to
Lou Manders, Evert Van den Veen and Jan Scheepstra,”
said Jean-Yves Duthel, Head of Public Relations.
“We were impressed by the quality of the
Utrecht organisation: every aspect of the games
was well handled and their devotion to the LGBT
sport movement incredible.”
Montréal 2006 had an information
and registration kiosk during the EuroGames where
more than 1,500 t-shirts were distributed for
free and 200 participants registered on-site.
Montréal 2006 banners were on every competition
site, while the Canadian Embassy in the Netherlands,
with the collaboration of the Délégation
Générale du Québec à
Bruxelles, offered a VIP cocktail for more
than 200 European sport team representatives.
Montréal 2006 Co-President, Mark Tewksbury,
presented the Outgames during the EuroGames closing
ceremonies and the Utrecht Mayor, Ms. Annie Brouwer-Korf
accepted the Mayor of Montréal’s
invitation to take part in the International Conference
on LGBT Rights in 2006.
The International Conference also
has support from two Dutch organisations: COC
(the oldest LGBT rights association in the world)
and Homosport Nederland. These organisations signed
a partnership agreement with Montréal 2006.
BERLIN
During the Christopher Street Day
2005 celebration, which took place in Berlin,
from 15 to 25 June, Montréal 2006, with
the collaboration of Team Berlin, Berlin Pride
Radio and BOX Magazine, made a big splash with
a presence in two kiosks and in the parade on
25 June. The Canadian Embassy in Berlin welcomed
more than 200 German LGBT representatives during
a reception on 22 June to promote the 1st World
Outgames Montréal 2006.
SAN FRANCISCO, NEW YORK
AND TORONTO
Invited by Tourisme Montréal
to attend the San Francisco, New York and Toronto
Prides, Montréal 2006 was on the road again
simultaneously in these three cities.
Equipe SF, an all-volunteer group
of Bay Area athletes and artists who are joining
together for the purpose of camaraderie and team-spirit
at the 1st World Outgames Montréal 2006,
took part in the San Francisco Pride celebration
along with Montréal 2006.
As for the New York Pride, Daniel
Vaudrin, president of Équipe Montréal
and Dr Pierre Côté, a member of Montréal
2006 Board of Directors, were part of the parade
and met with many LGBT sport team representatives
during their stay. The Toronto Pride was a tremendous
success as well.
...FAST-GROWING REGISTRATIONS
The Outgames have now 1,500 registrants
from the United States. More than 1,000 others
are in the process of registering, thanks to the
great collaboration of hundreds of American sport
teams.
“Our presence in so many LGBT
events in the past two weeks in Europe and United
States confirmed for us the immense recognition
of the Outgames. In the upcoming six months, our
commitment in these two important markets will
be maintained and increased in order to reach
our target registration numbers,” concluded
Ms. Louise Roy.
