OUTREACH
Launch of the Bursary Programme for the 1st World
Outgames Montréal 2006
Montréal, 5 December
2005 – The 1st
World Outgames Montréal 2006 announced
today the launch of its Outreach
Bursary Programme for disadvantaged participants
in sport and cultural activities, as well as for
participants in the International Conference on
LGBT Human Rights. The Montréal organisation
will offer bursaries valued at nearly $500,000
CAD and the selection committee will accept applications
until 1 February 2006.
“The Outreach Bursary Programme,”
explained Montréal 2006 CEO, Ms. Louise
Roy, “will award half of all bursaries to
women, in order to be as inclusive as possible.
It is thanks to our fundraising events –
notably the Nuit de Bronze, Nuit d’Argent
and Nuit d’Or galas –
and the generous contribution of private donors
such as GlaxoSmithKline and HIVOS, that we are
able to offer a programme on a scale unprecedented
in the history of LGBT games.”
The Outreach Bursary Programme will
have two components. One part of the Programme
will be available for registrants in sport
and cultural activities, while the other will
be specific to the International
Conference, in an effort to recognise the
needs and realities of these two very different
groups of 1st World
Outgames participants.
The Programme plans to award bursaries
for lodging and registration for the sport or
cultural activities, or for the International
Conference. Preference will be given to candidates
residing in locations other than Canada, the United
States, Western Europe, Israel, Japan, Australia
or New Zealand.
GETTING READY
FOR NEXT YEAR
“The dream we have be
following in Montréal for the last five
years is about to become reality,” concluded
Louise Roy, Montréal 2006 CEO. “We
have been living an incredible adventure in synergy
with the LGBT community in Montréal, and
our partners and sponsors. As we travel around
the world to meet with people who will be coming
here next year, we are absolutely thrilled with
the enthusiastic welcome we receive wherever we
go. On behalf of Montréal 2006, I would
like to thank all of those, both here and abroad,
who have put their trust in us and tell them that
they will be very proud of the 1st
World Outgames.”
