The
1st World Outgames continues its winning
streak and launches an Australian Tour!
Montréal,
21 September 2005 –
Montréal, 21 September 2005 – The
Organising Committee of the 1st
World Outgames Montréal 2006 has launched
an Australian Tour
in Sydney, Melbourne and other key cities “down
under”. The goal of the tour, which will
run from 21 September to 4 October 2005, is to
maximise team registrations for the Outgames.
The tour kicks off with the GayAZ Expo in Melbourne,
the largest LGBT commercial expo in Australia.
Then, on Thursday 29 September 2005, Organising
Committee will be holding a special "Taste
of Canada" party in Sydney with more than
400 people to promote the Outgames, backed by
an advertising campaign in local gay media.
“The Australian market has
an enormous potential for Montréal 2006.
And, since Sydney hosted the last LGBT games in
2002, the community there is already aware of
the movement and primed for our event,”
said Ms. Louise Roy, CEO of the 1st World Outgames
Montréal 2006.
Outgames on a roll
“We have now reached the final
stages of planning for the 1st
World Outgames in Montréal in 2006,”
Mr. Gérald Tremblay, Mayor of Montréal,
announced during a press conference last week.
“The Organising Committee and GLISA [the
Gay and Lesbian International Sport Association],
the international organisation in charge of the
Outgames, have all the budgetary, logistical and
security components in place to ensure the delivery
of a major event with the enthusiastic support
of all Montrealers,” he added. “I
am also very pleased and proud to announce that
the longevity of the Outgames is assured, now
that the city of Copenhagen will carry the flame
to 2009 and many other cities have expressed their
interest in hosting the 2013 edition. Once again,
Montréal’s innovation has set the
example.”
The Organising Committee is
confident that it will attain its objectives and
successfully deliver an exciting and memorable
event for the LGBT community. “With already
more than 6,500 people registered,” explained
Ms. Louise Roy, CEO of Montréal 2006, “an
impressive number of partners, notably the Governments
of Canada and of Québec, the City of Montréal
and Tourisme Montréal, along with many
sponsors and a solid team in place, we now know
that we will reach our goals in every way.”
