The
creation of Equipo México
versión española >>
Montréal, 18 April
2005 — During a special Mexico
Registration Day for the 1st
World Outgames in 2006, on 16 April 2005, a new
LGBT sport team, Equipo México,
was formed with the coordination of Mr. Said Uriel
Pulido Aranda.
“We are very pleased,”
said Ms. Marielle Dupéré, member
of the Executive Committee of Montréal
2006, “to see this breakthrough in Mexico.
There is an enormous potential here for the development
of gay sport and for participation in the 1st
World Outgames in Montréal in 2006. Many
LGBT sports teams have already been established
in Mexico and many others are being formed now,
and the creation of Equipo México,
with its goal of sending a large delegation to
the Outgames, will be an important step forward
in the development of LGBT sport in this country.”
“We will continue our work,”
said Mr. Pulido Aranda, “so that between
now and the fall of 2005, we can bring together
a major delegation of Mexican athletes for the
Outgames in Montréal.”
Equipo México is
starting with 50 members and expects to double
its numbers quickly in the coming months. The
multi-sport organisation includes Volleyball,
Track and Field, Bowling, Swimming and Skating
teams.
As well, representatives of Montréal
2006 met with many different organisations regarding
the Outgames cultural activities and the International
Conference on LGBT rights, which will be held
from 26 to 29 July 2006, just before the opening
of the Outgames.
This special Mexico Registration
Day on Saturday, 16 April 2005, was made possible
with the support of the Délégation
Générale du Québec in Mexico,
and the collaboration of CAMP Magazine and E-Radio.
