The
" Rendez-Vous Montréal 2006" Gay
Sport and Cultural Festival will reunite
over 16,000 gay and lesbian athletes and
cultural participants from over 100 countries.
The Games' Sports Programme has been carefully
planned for the past two years and will
feature thirty one sports, all sanctioned
by sports federations in Canada and Québec.
The Games will also feature opening and
closing ceremonies in Montréal's Olympic
Stadium and a Cultural Programme will be
presented throughout the eight day event.
The Games welcome everyone, regardless of
their sexual orientation, age, physical
ability, athletic/artistic skills or HIV/health
status. Moreover, there are no minimum athletic
standards to qualify for the event; the
only requirement is the desire to support
the ideals of the Games, which are Inclusion,
Participation and Personal Best. The Organizing
Committee expects over 250,000 visitors
and $180 million CAD in economic fallout
for the city. The
Rendez-Vous Montréal 2006 Organizing Committee
is proud of its public and private financial
partners, with over $5 million CAD in
guaranteed sponsorships. The Games' financial
partners are the City of Montréal, the
Government of Québec, the Government of
Canada, Tourisme Montréal and the Hotel
Association of Greater Montréal and Société
Radio-Canada.
