Athletes’
Circle. Ms.
Lafranchise
is a well-known
personality
both in Québec
and throughout
Canada. Last
June, she became
for the second
year in a row
the Canadian
Champion.

Inaugural
Delegate Congress
From
29 August to
2 September,
GLISA will be
holding its
Inaugural Delegate
Congress in
Montréal.
After just a
year and a half
in existence,
and unprecedented
success in attracting
members from
all five continents
— almost
70 so far —
GLISA is poised
to experience
many milestone
moments. An
executive committee
will be democratically
elected, and
certain rules
will become
part of GLISA’s
charter and
a host city
will be chosen
for the 2nd
World Outgames.
GLISA is expecting
delegations
totaling about
50 people for
this first Congress.
They will be
received at
Montréal’s
City Hall by
the Mayor of
Montréal,
Mr. Gérald
Tremblay.

GALA
Choruses
From 1 to 4
September 2005,
representatives
of the 1st World
Outgames Montréal
2006 will attend
the GALA
Choruses
2005 Annual
Conference,
Touching
Hearts, Changing
Minds,
in Kansas City,
Missouri. It
will be the
perfect occasion
for the Outgames
to unveil details
on the Choral
Festival programme
and competition
formats. In
addition to
performances,
the Choral Festival
will feature
competitive
events in which
small, medium-sized
and large ensembles
will compete
for gold, silver
and bronze medals.
These choral
events will
be held at Place
des Arts, one
of the most
prestigious
and unique cultural
centres in Canada.
Registered groups
will perform
at the Salle
Maisonneuve
in Place des
Arts and will
have the rare
opportunity
to grow as artists
in an internationally
known and respected
professional
venue. An experience
not to be missed! |

Meeting
of the Scientific
Committee
The
second meeting
of the International
Scientific Committee
will be held
in Montréal
from 1 to 3
September 2005.
The Committee
will establish
the final programme
for the Conference
and will have
the pleasure
of announcing
several internationally
known and respected
keynote speakers.
Currently, almost
40 workshop
proposals have
been submitted
to the Conference
organizers.
The mayor of
Montréal,
Mr. Gérald
Tremblay, will
welcome the
members of the
International
Scientific Committee
during a reception
at City Hall.

2005
Monday,
25 July 2005,
the first Night
Parade of Divers/Cité
enchanted thousands
of spectators
along a new
route in the
Gay Village.
More
than one hundred
volunteers from
Montréal
2006 and 150
athletes and
singers from
Équipe
Montréal
took part in
the first unified
float of the
two organisations.

World Masters
Games
Montréal
2006 has an
information
booth on site
at the Edmonton
World Masters
Games, which
are being held
from 22 to 31
July 2005 in
Alberta, Canada.
Éric
Pineault, Outgames
Project Manager
for Promotions
and Communications,
and a team of
volunteers are
on hand to meet
athletes and
answer questions
about the Outgames.
With
27 sports open
to sports enthusiasts
throughout the
world, the World
Masters Games
are the largest
sport festival
on earth, with
some 23,000
people expected
from 82 countries
around the world.

2005 Championships

for the IGLA
2005 Championships
where Montréal
2006 is an Official
2005 IGLA sponsor.
The 2005 Championships
were held from
20 to 25 July
2005, and it
was the biggest
gay swimming
event of the
year featuring
swimming, diving,
water polo,
synchronized
swimming and
Pink Flamingo.
20 countries,
68 teams and
1,500 athletes.

This year, the
IGLFA (International
Gay and Lesbian
Football Association)
will be holding
the World
Championship
in beautiful
Copenhagen,
Denmark. This
will be the
first event
of its kind
in Scandinavia!

PrideGames
2005 will
take place from

2005 as part
of the 10 day
Manchester Pride
festival. The
games will feature
a broad programme

Rendez-Vous d'Or |

This
year’s
Rendez-Vous,
Gold Edition
activities will
kick off with
la Nuit
d’Or,
a gourmet cocktail
dînatoire
on Thursday,
1 September,
followed by
a celebration
of lesbian women
during the Femmes
en tête
evening on Friday,
2 September.
Then, the Village
comes alive
for the “Rendez-Vous
in the Village”
on Saturday
and Sunday,
3 and 4 September,
when Sainte-Catherine
Street will
be closed to
automobile traffic
to make way
for sport and
cultural demonstrations
and activities
in the streets
in a festive
preview of the
Outgames next
summer. Village
bars and restaurants
will be creating
special outdoor
terraces just
for the occasion.
The
Delta Centre-Ville
Hotel will be
the official
hotel for this
year’s
Rendez-Vous
d'Or and has
been named the
Official Hotel
of the International
Conference on
LGBT rights
in 2006.
Many
international

Montréal
2006 is hard
at work preparing
for the 7 days
of intense activities
from 29 August
to 4 September
2005. In fact,
some 200 invited
guests from
countries around
the world will
be on hand to
join with thousands
of Montrealers
in experiencing
the Rendez-Vous
in the Village,

Montréal
2006, Équipe
Montréal
and Village
merchants and
businesses,
along with numerous

The
Nuit d’Or
gala evening,
which will be
held on 1 September
at the magnificent
Chalet de la
Montagne on
Mount-Royal
with Honorary
President Mr.
Mark Bruneau,
Executive Vice-President
and Chief Strategy
Officer for
Bell Canada
Enterprises
(BCE Inc.),
will bring together
more than 800
members of the
Montréal
business community.
The mayor of
Montréal,
Mr. Gérald
Tremblay, has
confirmed his
presence for
the evening.
Rendez-Vous
dans le Village
The
streets of the
Village will
be closed to
traffic on the
weekend of 2-3
September to
make way for
a host of special
sporting activities
and demonstrations.
Équipe
Montréal
will be organising
these activities,
which are sure
to thrill and
entertain the
public. There
will be Beach
Volleyball on
real sand, figure
skating, wrestling,
swimming and
many other sports
presented to
Montrealers
right in the
street. Club
Bolo will be
on hand to add
a little country
western rhythm
to the weekend
as well. And
of course, the
Village merchants
will have special
outdoor terraces
set up on the
street just
for the occasion,
to allow visitors
to take a break
and enjoy refreshments
outdoors. On
Friday 2 September,
the weekend
kicks off with
the Femmes
en tête
awards evening,
which will honour
eleven Québec
lesbian women
for their outstanding
courage and
determination
in a diverse
range of activities.
This evening
to promote lesbian
visibility has
become a tradition
for Montréal
2006 over the
last three years.
These
activities are
expected to
attract over
25,000 Montrealers
and are sure
to have the
city abuzz with
Outgames fever!

New
Parntners in
the Village
and Laval
With
just 365 days
to go before
the Opening
Ceremonies of
the 1st
World Outgames,
excitement is
starting to
build in the
Montréal
business community.
New partners
both within
and outside
of the Gay Village
have joined
forces with
Montréal
2006, namely,
Le Cabaret Mado,
le Stock, le
Redlite,
le Stud and
le Circus
Afterhours.
The
Cabaret
Mado and
the Stock will
join with other
Village clubs
who have been
organising fundraising
evenings for
the 1st World
Outgames for
the past few
months.
Outside
of the Village
(in Laval),
Le Redlite has
agreed to do
two big fundraising
activities:
one during this
year’s
Rendez-Vous
in the Village,
on Saturday
3 September
2005, and a
second in 2006.
The date for
the 2006 activity
will be announced
shortly.
Le
Circus Afterhours,
located in the
heart of the
Village, has
become a partner
of the 1st World
Outgames and
will show the
Outgames video
clips on the
giant screens
in the club.
Le Stud,
has developed
its own original
twist on fundraising
activities and
has been, for
the last few
months, hosting
fundraising
activities every
Thursday to
benefit members
of Équipe
Montréal.
In
the weeks to
come, other
merchants will
be confirming
their participation
as partners
in the 1st
World Outgames.
