Are you a member of
a chorus that would like to participate in the
largest LGBT sporting and cultural event with
over 16,000 participants?
Join the many choruses
coming from around the globe (the Americas, Europe,
Oceania, Africa) already registered for the Outgames
Choral Festival. Concerts will be presented from
1 to 3 August 2006 in a hall of 845 seats
specially designed for music and voice, providing
an equally excellent acoustic for choral ensembles
with less than 12 members and choral ensembles
boasting more than 100 members. The Mass Choruses
rehearsals will take place from 29 July to 4
August. The Mass Choruses performances will take
place 3 and 4 August 2006. You are eligible
for a rebate on registration if your ensemble
has 10 members or more.
Choral ensembles registering for
the Outgames can present a 30-minute concert or
participate in the competition, where they will
be judged by a jury that will determine the top
three choruses in each of the categories. As well,
choruses have the chance to give supplementary
performances on the different competition sites
of the games, or at the Rendez-Vous Square, the
central meeting place for all Outgames participants
and visitors.
Each chorus registered for the Outgames
will be assigned an Outgames volunteer to answer
any questions they may have about the Outgames
and to advise the chorus on its responsibilities
in planning the trip to Montréal. This
volunteer will welcome the chorus upon its arrival
in Montréal and will also assist the chorus
members during the accreditation process. Their
designated volunteer will also show them around
the main competition and meeting sites of the
Outgames.
Sing Out Strong at the
1st World Outgames Montréal
2006
You’re not part
of a chorus but you can sing? Your chorus isn’t
participating in the 1st
World Outgames? Your chorus is participating but
you want to maximise your pleasure?
The Outgames offer you the opportunity
of joining one their three mass choruses (Men,
Women, and Mixed), which will be directed by internationally
renowned Artistic Directors from Canada, France
and the United States. Register now for one of
these mass choruses and receive 10 hours of workshops,
a dress rehearsal with one of our three invited
Artistic Directors, and participate in the closing
show for the Choral Festival. As well, you have
the chance to perform at the Rendez-Vous Square,
the principle meeting place for participants and
visitors to the Outgames.
Members of participating choruses
at the Outgames can register to join one of our
mass choruses at no extra cost: we have set aside
a limited number of places for participants who
are already registered with their chorus but wish
to enhance their choral experience.

A Concert Hall Designed
for Voice and Music
The Festival of Choruses
will take place from 1 through 3 August 2006
at the Salle Pierre-Mercure in the Centre Pierre-Péladeau.
This hall, with its 845 seats, is the only one
in Montréal that was specifically designed
for voice and music. The acoustics are incomparable
and equally excellent for small choruses with
less than 10 members as for large ensembles
with more than 100 singers. The stage is complete
with an elliptical horn that significantly improves
acoustic quality. The choice of wood was made
as much for its acoustic qualities as its aesthetic
appeal, giving the Salle Pierre-Mercure a feel
of nobility and warmth. The very intimate ambience
provides a unique contact between audience and
artists.
This concert hall is directly
connected to the métro (Berri-UQAM);
it is in easy walking distance to and from
the Square Viger, the hub
for Outgames participants and visitors, as
well as Montréal’s
Gay Village, whose reputation is already
well-established!
