Softball tournaments will welcome a maximum of
120 teams, or about 1400 athletes from around
the world. There will be four categories: Fast Pitch, Women’s Slow Pitch, Men’s
Slow Pitch and Mixed Slow Pitch. These categories will
be subdivided.

The tournament will be sanctioned by Softball
Québec, member of Softball Canada.
The tournament will use Softball
Canada rules, including variations made by
the Montréal 2006 Organising Committee.
We will soon post details on these rules, which
will be based on those used by the Canadian championships.

A participant may register on only
one team, which can register in only one division.
A team can register for only one of the following

If fewer than five teams are
registered in a given category, it may be grouped
with another category. Mixed teams must include
at least three women.
The competition will be held in two parts:
The preliminary round will be a
round robin format in which teams play against
others in their pool. Winning teams in each pool
will advance to the final round, which will be
a double elimination format.
During the round robin tournament,
each team must play a minimum of five games.
Description of Divisions:
| Fast Pitch |
The
pitcher can do a full rotation of the
arm. The hand must be below the hip and
the wrist cannot be farther from the body
than the elbow when the ball is released. |
| Slow Pitch |
The
ball must be thrown underhanded, at a
moderate speed. The hand must be below
the hip. The ball must follow an arc,
between 6 and 12 feet from the ground
(1.83 and 3.66 metres). |
The schedule will be posted here after the close
of the registration period in April 2006.

During the accreditation, participants from Canada will be required to show government-issued identification with a photo. For athletes from all other countries, a passport will be the preferred form of identification. Furthermore, every participant will be required to provide his or her participant number.

Every participant in the 1st
World Outgames Montréal 2006 will receive
a participation medal. Teams that finish in first,
second and third place in each of the divisions
listed above will receive additional medals.
