Do I need
a partner? Do I need to register as part of a
team/club?
The answer to both questions is a resounding NO.
But, you are more than welcome to bring along
as many of your friends and fellow dancers as
you can or wish. In gay square dance circles,
dancers square up in groups of eight based on
whether or not you can lead or follow. You could
very well dance the entire event with different
folks in every square.
Do I have to be gay or
lesbian to square dance during the OutGames?
Again, NO you don't have to be gay or lesbian
in order to participate. One of the guiding principles
of the International Association of Gay Square
Dance Clubs is openness. So, please, do come and
dance with us. You'll make new friends and have
the chance to catch up with old ones.
Is square dancing competitive?
NO once again! Square dancing is strictly a social
activity so you can dance to the extent you wish
without the pressure of competition. All participating
square dancers will receive participant medals.
Do I need any special
outfits/clothing?
The answer to this is partly NO and partly YES.
There is no specific square dance attire to be
concerned about. You will find some dancers dressed
as casually as shorts and t-shirts and others
dressed in western garb. Anything is fine as long
as you dress comfortably. See the next question
for information about specialty dances (they might
inspire some clothing ideas).
Are there going to be
special events during the square dancing at the
OutGames?
YES! Of course! It wouldn't be gay square dancing
without something special! Watch this page for
details about introductory dances to be held during
the Outgames. Between August 2-4, 2006, when square
dancing is in full swing, there will be special
Leather and Moonshine tips as well as a masquerade
dance on the last day. Don't forget to come dressed
in your favourite whacky Outgames sports outfit.
Who are
the invited callers for the Outgames Square Dance
events?
Square Dance events will feature the talents of
the following well-known callers: Don Moger, Nick
Martellacci, Anne Uebelacker, Tim Crawford, Don
St-Jean, Bill Eyler, and Todd Fellegy.
Can I participate
in more than one sport and/or cultural activities
during the 1st World Outgames?
Registration of participants is limited to a maxim
mod 3 sports and/or culture activities. It is
the participant responsibility to make sure there
is no schedule conflict within the different activities
he registered for.
When will
the Square Dance events be held?
From Wednesday 2 August to Friday 4 August.
Where will
the Square Dance events take place?
The events will take place at the Hilton Bonaventure
Hotel of Montréal.
What level
of dancers can take part in the recreational dance?

be awarded?
